Flash

This week we are going to be working on a few samples in Flash designed to introduce the various elements and tools within the application.

I will be using Flash MX for all you dinosaurs out there. The methods are slightly different for CS3 but feel free to email me and ask for help if you get lost...

Link to an animation in Flash via a button

Although this tutorial might appear simple it actually combines many of the tools available in flash into one digestible chunk. These tools include: Button symbols, graphic symbols, movie clip symbols, rollover states, actionscript, timeline navigation, motion tween, key frames, toolbox editing tools and publishing for export.

For this tutorial we are simply going to create a button that links to point further in the timeline that will then play a simple animation.

Visit www.whackyourboss.com for a sample of how this could be developed... You will see that it is a game comprised of 17 buttons linking to 17 animations.

Animated stick figure

For this tutorial we will e using the pen tool and key frames to create a frame-by-frame animation in Flash. We will make it dace and jump and you can do the rest... (kick, punch etc)

Simple shooter game

In this tutorial we will be creating a simple shoot and score funtion which can then be developed into something more pretty :)
